It's no secret that I like the read I'm also guilty of drawing and highlighting the crap out of the books I read. So I thought I would share some of the highlighted or written notes in some of the books I read. This particular paragraph is from the book AS A MAN THINKETH written by James Allen (28 November 1864 – 24 January 1912) was a British philosophical writer known for his poetry the book went into publication in 1903 and is probably more relevant today than it was then. I say this because we seem to be experiencing a pandemic of mental health amongst people.
The book is small and was originally sold for a shilling it was designed to be carried in the pocket so that at any point during the day you would be able to learn and apply its teachings. It's objective being to stimulate both men and woman to the discovery and perception of the truth that.
"They themselves are the makers of themselves"
That sentence/quote is probably the central cornerstone of my own philosophy. I'am the maker of myself, Im responsible for the actions of my life and also responsible for the thoughts I choose to garner.
"As the plant springs from, and could not be without, the seed, so every act of a man springs from the hidden seeds of thought."
"Man is made or unmade by himself, in the armoury of thought he either forges the weapons by which he destroys himself or fashions the tools with which he builds himself"
The last quote from the book features heavily in my coaching methods. I want to show people that they are much more capable than they believe. The wonderful thing about strength training or physical fitness is that a lot of your success relies on your mind. You enter into a mental battle with yourself before the set or event has even begun.
As the announcement comes over the speaker system, Bar loaded or you get called up for your turn at the implement you enter the mental battle fear, doubt and anxiety peak your brain can very quickly become your enemy forcing you to miss. You have to learn how to control these emotions and focus on the task at hand because you're going to need every fibre of your being to move the load.
Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose but every single time you get a chance to strengthen the tools you build within yourself and this is one of the best attributes of the pursuit of strength or fitness.
